The Finance and Account Department plays a crucial role in supporting NBRRI's diverse operations by ensuring efficient financial management and resource allocation.

Mandate of the Department

At the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), our Finance and Accounting Department operates under a clear mandate to fulfill several key responsibilities:

  • Prepayment Audit of Vouchers – this activity was carried out daily to ensure that documentary evidences attached to payment requests are complete, valid and that the payments are reasonable.
  • Review of Store Activities: checks on the Institutes Store were carried out to ensure that receipts and issues in out of stores were properly authorized, that issues out of the stores were made to the right persons and that adequate stores records were maintained and updated.
  • Review of Paid vouchers: Audit reviewed all the payment vouchers paid by the Finance and Account to confirm that all payments made were properly authorized for the correct amount, paid to right persons and made for the purpose for which they were authorized.
  • Check on Revenue Collection Audit Carried out check on Laboratories and others to ensure that money received on behalf of the government were promptly and accurately accounted for and remitted as appropriate.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance: The department establishes and maintains robust internal controls to safeguard NBRRI's assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards. This includes implementing policies and procedures for financial transactions, procurement, and expenditure authorization.
  • Audit and Compliance Oversight: The department coordinates internal and external audits to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and transparency of NBRRI's financial records and processes. It collaborates with auditors and regulatory authorities to address findings, implement corrective actions, and maintain compliance with audit standards.
  • Architectural design of building to suit Nigerian climatic conditions with respect to lighting, ventilation, thermal comfort, humidity and noise reduction.
